There are two main reasons why it is important to include children in decisions made about their lives: 1.The UK government signed up to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) (UN, 1989) (see Chapter 1).2.The government has made this a priority in, for example, Every Child Matters (DfES, 2003a) and the standards of the National Service Framework for Children, Young People and Maternity Services (DH/DfES, 2004a) (see Chapter 1).
