Quality is essential to H&M, and means guaranteeing that the products meet or exceed the customers’ expectations. This means offering products that not only fit and look good, but are also durable, well made, functional, safe and free from harmful chemicals. This requires that quality begins at the design stage and continues throughout the entire manufacturing process. In order to achieve this, H&M is continuously refining processes and methods, and has a strict quality assurance process that starts as early as possible in the product life cycle. The challenge H&M faces is to adapt their high-quality standards to new fashions, products and market regulations while ensuring affordable prices of the products. With regard to product legislation and regulation, H&M follows the precautionary principle. This means that the company aims to meet the requirements of the country that has the strictest laws and regulations. In this way, it will ensure that all its products meet the requirements of all countries into which it sells, even though it will exceed the minimum requirements in many of its markets. H&M places a special emphasis on the need to meet specific strict safety standards for children’s products. It is also continuously looking for ways to improve and to apply even stricter standards.
